To Be Honest
Harvey Meadows Gallery
April 14 - April 17, 2017
Harvey / Meadows Gallery is pleased to present To Be Honest, an exhibition of work of the Artists in Residence at The Anderson Ranch Art Center. The show includes works by Teresa Audet, Lucy Wood Baird, Michael Benedetti, Matthew Colaizzo, Tara Daly, Leah Dyjak, Derek Glenn Martin, Yuki Maruyama, Vanessa Michalack, Elizaveta Mitrofanova, Stacy Motte, Alexis Myre, and Mariana Garibay Raeke. The exhibition is curated by Artist in Residence, Anthony Renda of New York.
The title of the exhibition explores the common ground that the artists share. Though they come from all over the country and are at different stages of their careers, each of the artists use honesty as a material, a tool and as a point of departure in making art. The works in the exhibition evoke the importance of honesty to their practice in the language used to describe the work and how the work presents itself to the audience.
There is a transparency and integrity at work in this group of artists. It can be seen in Stacy Motte’s meticulous crafting of musical instruments and furniture that ask questions about relationships and pairings. It is present in Matthew Collaizzo’s printmaking - each square inch of the large scale wood cuts he carves and prints by hand. Tara Daly’s merging of sci-fi feminist literature and ceramics is another example of this personal investment and integrity.
Please join us Friday, April 14th for an opening reception at Harvey /Meadows Gallery from 6pm to 8pm with a Curator Talk at 7pm.
